I am a descendent of James Linton, who was born in Sheffield, England and died in New Britain, Connecticu t. I grew up in New Britain, the grandson of James's first son, Henry Gilbert Linton. My father was Howard Frederick Linton.
M y great-gran dfather James's brother, Frederick Linton, came to Connecticu t about the same time as James did in the mid-1850's . Frederick, according to the family records we have, settled in Woodbury, marrying Jane Webster. They had seven children: Harry, Cora, Walter, Arthur, Florence, Lillian, and Minnie.
The last record I have of direct contact my immediate family has had with Frederick' s family was with a letter to my Aunt Helen Linton Grooman, who was doing a study of James Linton line in 1955. The letter was from Elsie, the wife of Frederick' s grandson Leroy (son of Harry) Elsie gave as much informatio n concerning Frederick' s descendent s as Leroy and she had memory or direct knowledge of.
I would love to hear from anyone with inform

Lived in Woodbury when I was very young, then moved to Bridgewate r. In the early to mid 1950's, there was an old church torn down in Woodbury. I still have one of the original benches (pews?) from that church. Am interested in finding out the name of the church. Can anyone help? Thanks

I am a avid Connecticu t Historian in search of each town's history sign. The state of Connecticu t gave them out to all 169 towns in 1976. The sign is blue with white lettering, usually located near the town green or town hall or maybe evne on their Main St. The town name is on top while the history of the sign is below it. OH and the sign is made of heavy steal. Does Woodbury have one, if so where is it. I am trying to collect pictures of all 169 in Connecticu t.

I grew up in this great little town (back then) from until 1959. As I looked at the map and satellite pics , all the building and new roads are incredible .
Lived on High St in the late 40's (Mountain Rd?) and Middle Qtr Rd in the 50's.
Alm ost unrecogniz able!
I hope there are still some natives in town. maybe I can make it back for my
50th WHS reunion in 2010 and catch up.

I'm a descendant of the Stoddard family, and was pleased to find informatio n on-line about Woodbury. Someday maybe I will be able to visit. The Stoddard family is part of my birth family, I am an adoptee. My adoptive paternal grandmothe r was born in Waterbury and there was also family in Portland, so, hopefully some day I will visit Connecticu t and be able to tour the places my ancestors - birth & adopted - came from.

Why doesn't the town assessor get its database on Totalvisio n or Vision Appraisal like almost all the other small CT towns do? Would make it easier for real estate developers and insurance companies to do business with Woodbury residents and businesses . I actually think they were once on Prophecy. What happened?? ?

I am looking for the locations of John Hurds grinding stones. I understand one half(top or bottom) is in Woodbury and the other half is in Hartford. Could some verify this and tell me the locations of both. Thank you

I was just a summer visitor in the 40s and early 50s to Woodbury. My mother, Marjorie Canfield Bender, along with my dad and sister would spend part of each summer visiting her sister Jean and her husband Harold Birchall as well as her father, Henry Canfield, owner of what then was called H. H. Canfield Corner Drug Store.

I would spend some time on most days "helping out" behind the soda fountain making the sodas, shakes, cokes, etc. I wasn't tall enough to reach the money right there at the fountain, so had to move down to a lower display case to take the money. My pay was gotten by saying "Gramp, can I have a candy bar?" or baseball card gum, ice cream, etc. He always said yes until my mom told him I was eating too many sweets and I was reduced to "just" a dollar a day. No real problem for me what with candy bars at a nickel.

The store has changed hands several times and the store sign, too. No more soda fountain, but in my mind there still are all those great memories.
