2010 America the Beautiful Urban Forestry Grant

Gerald D Stomski, First Selectman of the Town Of Woodbury has announced that it has received the 2010 America the Beautiful Urban Forestry Grant for the amount of $4,100.00. This grant is administrated by the State of Connecticut, Department of Environmental Protection and will be utilized by the Town for the project "Woodbury Tree Nursery Re-establishment".  The Town wishes to thank the Woodbury Shade Tree and Sidewalk Committee for their efforts in assisting with securing this grant.

BEDC to hosts Meet and Greet for Woodbury Citizens

The Woodbury Business and Economic Development Committee (BEDC) will be hosting a Meet and Greet for the citizens of Woodbury at the Woodbury Senior / Community Center on July 29, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the Meet and Greet is to allow the citizens of Woodbury an opportunity to listen to the BEDC members, share their visions for economic development, and to discuss the planned upcoming events BEDC Sponsored Events. It will also be an opportunity for the citizens to share ideas with the BEDC members.

The Tax Collector has extended the due date for the first installment of taxes.

The Tax Collector has extended the due date for the first installment of taxes due to the late passage of the Town budget. Tax bills for Real Estate, Personal Property and Motor Vehicles will be mailed by the end of July.

Tax bills will be due August 1 and are payable by September 1 to avoid interest charges. The second installment will be due January 1 with the last payment due by February 1.

BEDC to hosts Meet and Greet for Business Communit

The Woodbury Business and Economic Development Committee (BEDC) will be hosting a Meet and Greet for the Woodbury Business community at the Woodbury Senior / Community Center on July 15, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the Meet and Greet is to allow the Woodbury Business Community an opportunity to listen to the BEDC members, and their visions for economic development. It will also be an opportunity for the business community to discuss business concerns and ideas with BEDC members.

Woodbury's Antiques Trail Recognized as an official "getaway" by State Tourism Department

The Connecticut Department of Culture and Tourism has added Woodbury to its CTVisit website’s 52 Getaways.  The getaway focuses on the Connecticut Antiques Trail and features a number of town attractions and points of interest for potential visitors to consider.  “Antique Retreat” is #12 on the 52 getaways at http://www.ctvisit.com/.

Promotion of the Antiques Trail is a goal of the recently formed Business and Economic Development Committee, and the BEDC was instrumental in making the inclusion possible.

Town Applies for Open Space Grant

The Town of Woodbury is please to announce that it has submitted an application to the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant Program. The Town is seeking $207,025 in funds that would allow the Town to move forward with the acquisition of a parcel along the Nonnewaug River that is currently being farmed. If acquired, the parcel would provide public river access, fishing, and hiking opportunities. The Town would permit agriculture activities to continue.

The land purchased under this grant program may not be developed into any intensive outdoor recreation facility and/or commercial or residential use.The land will provide a linkage to create/contribute to a developing or existing greenway, protect or complement existing preserved agricultural land. It will protect land that can be classified as a Class 1 or Class 2 watershed land and provides a valuable resource for recreation, forestry, fishing, wildlife habitat and natural resources. It provides a multiple resource access values such as water supply protection and recreation, forest protection and fishing access and protects a prime naturally occurring feature such as a river or a stream. It will protect habitat of plant and animal species and will enhance, conserve the water quality of our rivers and also preserve our local agricultural heritage. It will be open space acquired by the Town for the Town.

 Please conserve your water. Minimize watering lawns and cars.

 Lawns will green back up when the rains begin.

NONNEWAUAG - Jackie Nickolas finishes 2nd in the National's

First Selectman Gerald D. Stomski has signed the Town of Woodbury Seal to a Certificate of Recognition for Jackie Nicholas in recognition of her achievement in the State and National 2000 Meter Steeplechase. Jackie Nickolas competed in the National Track Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. She qualified in the 2000 Meter Steeplechase. Jackie finished 2nd in the Nation in this race. Jackie also broke the Connecticut State Record in the same event. Her 2nd place finish earns her All-American status for the 2nd time this year. Congratulations to Jackie. We are all very proud of your accomplishments.

Town to create 60 parking spaces at Three River Soccer Fields

Selectman Jerry Stomski announces that it has received approval from the IWA to remove topsoil, deliver, spread and grade gravel to create 60 new parking spaces at Jacks Bridge Soccer Fields.

The Woodbury Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency has received and approved an application, 10-IW-1007, submitted by Town of Woodbury to excavate and construct a 60 space parking area adjacent to recreational area within a regulated area on property at Jacks Bridge Road (Tax Assessor’s Map 038, Lot 054).

Woodbury announces new Business and Economic Development Committee (BEDC)

The Woodbury’s Board of Selectmen at their May 27, 2010 Regular Meeting and at their June 2, 2010 Special Meeting voted to make the following appointments to the Woodbury Business and Economic Development Committee. 
The member are, Joe Donato-Chairman, Mike Cunningham-Vice Chairman, Curtis Jones, Raymond Manzi, Walter Dierks, T.J. Brennan, William Hildreth, Bill Monti, and Jim Conway. Catherine Adsitt, Town Planner will serve the BEDC as the Staff Advisor.

The BEDC was formed to promote and foster economic growth with in the community. A BEDC Meet and Greet Coffee is scheduled for all of the Woodbury Business Community at 7:00p.m. , July 15, 2010 and a Meet and Greet Coffee for all Woodbury Citizens at 7:00p.m. , July 29, 2010 at the Woodbury Senior/Community Center.

Woodbury Receives Historic Documents Preservation Grant

First Selectman, Gerald D. Stomski announces that it has received a grant in the amount of $3,000.00 from State of Connecticut, Connecticut State Library for a Historic Document Preservation Grant. The grant will be utilized for preserving the Towns historical documents.

Woodbury Receives CT Trust for Historic Preservation Grant

First Selectman, Gerald D. Stomski announces that it has received a grant in the amount of $11,950.00 from the CT Trust for Historic Preservation. The Historic Preservation Technical Assistance Grant (HPTAG) has been approved to provide a Structural Engineering Analysis of the Old Town Hall. HPTAG is a collaborative historic preservation technical assistance program of the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, with funding from the Connecticut General Assembly, the Connecticut Humanities Council and the Commission on Culture and Tourism. The grant will be utilized to determine the structural integrity of the balcony and look into providing an additional egress from the balcony at the Old Town Hall.

Selectman appoint Charter Revision Commission

CHARTER FOR THE TOWN OF WOODBURY, CONNECTICUT
CHAPTER VI. APPOINTED OFFICERS, BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
Section 602. Appointed Boards and Commissions.

M. Charter Revision Commission.

1. The Board of Selectmen shall appoint a Charter Revision Commission not later than ten (10) years after the most recent Charter Commission submitted its final report to the Board. The Board of Selectmen shall, however, review the provisions of this Charter from time to time, and may appoint a Charter Revision Commission at any time within such ten (10) year period, if it deems that appointment to be in the best interests of the Town. The Charter Revision Commission shall employ legal counsel, other than Town Counsel, to assist in its review of the Charter and to make recommendations for amendments, if any. The Charter Revision Commission shall have all the powers conferred on it and perform all the duties required of it by law.

2. Appointments to the Charter Revision Commission shall be made in accordance with Section 7-190(a) of the General Statutes and notwithstanding the provisions of Section 902(B) of this Charter, the Board of Selectmen may appoint any elector, except members of the Board of Selectmen, to serve on the Charter Revision Commission, provided, however, that no more than two (2) members of any particular board or commission may serve on the Charter Revision Commission while they are members of such other board or commission.

At it’s March 11, 2010 Special Meeting, the Board of Selectman appointed the following people to serve on the Charter Revision Commission pursuant to Chapter VI. , Section 602. of the Woodbury Town Charter.

Town Conduct Emergency Response Exercise

Town of Woodbury to Conduct Emergency Response Exercise - March 2011.

 At a Press Conference held on February 19th, 2010, First Selectman Gerald D. Stomski announced that the Town of Woodbury will be holding an Emergency Preparedness Exercise in March of 2011. The exercise, Woodbury Operation Preparedness, WOP Charlie-1 will test the town's Emergency Response Plan. The Table Top exercise will test the towns ability to respond to and recover from a hypothetical event that will effect a large geographic region, thus rendering the town to rely on it's own ability and  resources to manage the scenario of events.

Woodbury's Emergency Management Director, Randy Ashmore will coordinate the efforts of the town's emergency response personnel, the area businesses and the citizen's of Woodbury. A grant from the U.S. Department of Justice has been applied for to cover the associated cost for the exercise.

The event will be dedicated to the Deputy Emergency Management Director, Charlie Rutledge who had died on February 17th. 

 Additional information of the scheduled events will be released throughout the year.

Town to receive Energy Efficiency and Conservation

Town of Woodbury to receive Energy Efficiency and Conservation Grant from State of Connecticut  - Office of Policy and Management - OPM

 The Town of Woodbury has announced that it has been awarded a Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant in the amount of $56,590.00 from the State of Connecticut, Office of Policy and Management.

The grant is an award from the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act - ARRA. The energy grant will be utilized for insulation and for controlled thermostat installation in the Shove Building, the Boyd Building and the Library. The Public Building Commission and the Energy Committee will over see the utilization of this grant.

Awards will be presented to recipients at the annual CIRMA Risk Management Achievement Awards celebration, which will be scheduled for later in the year.
