Also closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas.

Permit stickers to be adhered to residents' private automobiles are issued at the Transfer Station and Selectmen's Office at no cost to the homeowner. Proof of residency is required. Small business permits available at Public Works Office.

NO Recyclables in the household garbage
Recycling
(There are specific areas available for the mandated recycling of newspapers, cardboard, glass, metal and aluminum cans, batteries, motor oil and leaves. These items should not be mixed in with your household garbage)
Glass - Includes: Clear, brown and green food and beverage containers.
Preparation: Discard caps in household trash, wash clean.  NO: Drinking glass, light bulbs, ceramics, window glass, mirror glass or broken glass of any kind.

Metal Cans - Includes: Tin and aluminum cans (food and beverage only) Preparation: Wash clean.
NO: Scrap metal, toasters, pots, pans, hangers, aerosol cans etc ( monitor for these items).

Plastic

- Includes: #1 & #2 symbols on bottom - 1 gallon and under with a neck.
Examples: Ketchup bottles, peanut butter jars, milk jugs, detergent, bleach & shampoo bottles
Preparation: Check for number code; remove and discard caps in household garbage; wash clean; labels and neck rings are okay; don't crush.
NO: Styrofoam, food wraps, toys, over gallon without necks, recycling #3 thru #7, plastic dishes or cottage cheese containers, motor oil, antifreeze, paint thinner or gasoline containers.
Waxed Cartons (Aseptic containers) - Includes milk and juice cartons, 1 gallon and under.
Preparation: Wash clean and remove straws.
Newspapers - Includes: Newspapers and inserts delivered with newspapers; brown paper bags.
Preparation: Tie stacks of newspaper with string or bundle in brown paper grocery bags.
NO: junk mail, shiny paper, books, chipboard boxes

Corrugated Cardboard - Includes: Double-walled cardboard shipping cartons.
Preparation: Flatten; stack and tie in large quantities. No Larger than 3'x3'
NO: foreign cardboard, waxed cardboard, shoe boxes, pizza boxes, gift boxes, cereal boxes. Containers with shinny print or coating.

Junk mail - Includes: Catalogs, Magazines, Envelopes, Advertising, Mail, School Paper, soft cover books, Office Paper, Non-Metallic Wrapping Paper, Real Estate Books.
Preparation: All the acceptable material can be mixed together.
NO: Newspaper, Chipboard or Corrugated Boxes, Brown Paper Bags, Telephone Books, Plastic Bags, Carbon Paper, Blueprints, Golden rod/Stillbene Envelopes, Cafeteria or Washroom Waste Paper.

Clothing - Drop-off boxes available at Transfer Station.

Scrap Metal - Includes: Light scrap metal, white goods, aluminum, copper, brass, tools, water tanks, pipes, aluminum siding, copper wire, faucets
Preparation: Check with Transfer Station Attendants.
NO: Propane tanks, paint cans, fuel oil and gasoline tanks.

Leaves and Brush - Includes: Foliage from trees
Preparation: Check with Transfer Station Attendants.
NO: Grass clippings

Waste oil - Includes: Used crankcase oil, automatic transmission fluid, fuel oil, hydraulic oil, kerosene.
Preparation: Place in clean plastic or metal jug. Do not use empty bleach containers.
NO: gasoline, parts cleaner, solvents, oils with "speedy dry", paint thinner, cooking oil.

Anti-freeze - Deposit to tank at Transfer Station.

Batteries - Includes: Car batteries, truck batteries, boat batteries, tractor batteries, motorcycle batteries.
Preparation: Deliver to Transfer Station
NO: Flashlight batteries, watch batteries
Nickel-cadmium batteries - Includes hearing aid batteries Preparation: Return to Radio Shack

Bulky Materials
Preparation: Lumber, PVC pipe etc - cut to 4ft. or under

A fee will be charged for the disposal of the following:

Air Conditioner, Dehumidifier $5.00 each
Refrigerator, Freezer $10.00 each
Propane Cylinders $2.00 each

Remember, recycling reduces waste, saves energy, and contributes to a healthier planet. It is also the law. Fines up to $100 may be levied per town ordinance. If you need further information about recycling, please contact the Woodbury Selectmen's office at (203) 263-2141.
