Fire Marshal:

Duties: The Fire Marshal is responsible for the enforcement of many
sections found in Chapter 541 of the Connecticut General Statues as well
as numerous codes that are promulgated un the provisions of these statues.
The Marshal and her Deputies are required to annually inspect all buildings
and facilities of public service and occupancies regulated by the Connecticut
State Fire Safety Code. The code covers all occupancies, except one and
two family dwellings and premises used for manufacturing. The Marshal must
also investigate the cause and origin of all fires with in their jurisdiction,
and within 10 days report the fires to the State Fire Marshal.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to, the issuing
of permits for the use, transportation and storage of explosives, investigate
complaints concerning explosives, inspect explosive storage magazines, enforce
statue regulations for the installation and use of space heaters, inspect
all flammable and combustible liquid storage tank installations, conduct
site inspections of all firework or special effect displays, inspect tents
and portable structures, conduct plan reviews for various new buildings
and businesses, and she is required to attend a minimum of 30 hours of on
going education every year.
